After the U16 Warriors won the title, the Melbourne Wolves gathered 15-20 boys and conducted our training camp at the end of the year.
The drills we practised enhanced: passing, shooting (shooting form and shooting range), rebounding (including boxing out and positioning), moving with and without the ball, driving with both hands from 5 different angles, vertical jumps, core strengths, screens, pick & rolls, defensive positioning and using the whole body to our advantage with and without the ball.
The centres and power forwards learned and practised post-moves including hook shots, pivot, spin-around, pump fakes and layups with both hands.
The shooting guards, point guards and small forwards learned and practised set shots, jump shots, mid-range catch-and-shoot, and the ‘Ray Allen’ shooting drills. Players including Aiden Park, Neal Gong, George Zhao took more than 100 shots every day.
From Monday to Friday we played multiple scrimmage games, both half courts and full courts.
Each day, the training session started at 9am and finished at 3pm, with drink breaks and lunch breaks. Vegetable rolls, sushis, drinks and pizzas were delivered each day.
Outstanding players in each session were rewarded with ice creams.
“I was pleased to see the U16 and U14 players giving their best shot at the training camp,” says Michael Yang, head coach at the training camp, “multiple players enhanced their skills and improved upon their weaknesses.”
The players are looking forward to the start of the new season.
